MICHIGAN CHILDREN PROTECTIVE SERVICES (CPS) TRAINING LESSON (DECEMBER 2022)

This design plan presented a structured training program to improve the retention and competency of entry-level Child Protective Services (CPS) specialists within the Michigan CPS agency. The training's focus was to ensure that specialists remain in their roles for at least three years and are effectively prepared to navigate the Case Process from A to Z. A four-day training event encompassed both theoretical and practical components, including hands-on application and collaborative learning activities that reinforced the processes and protocols necessary for success in complex social work environments. Participants who meet specific prerequisites engaged in various activities, such as role-playing and using job aids, to enhance their understanding and application of CPS procedures. The sessions were designed to impart knowledge and foster skills in handling unique crises, enabling specialists to perform their duties effectively while meeting documentation requirements using the MiSACWIS system. The program's aim was to create a supportive learning environment that encourages peer feedback and continuous improvement, thus contributing to better outcomes for both the specialists and the families they serve. Through this comprehensive approach, the training sought to develop competent professionals equipped to carry out their responsibilities confidently and efficiently, benefiting the community and the agency.
